If you’ve just landed on Andy’s Beer Reviews and you’re wondering what this site is really about, this page will explain it better than any single review ever could.

This is a personal beer blog, written by someone who genuinely enjoys sitting down with a beer and taking the time to understand it. I’ve been drinking beer for decades, long before “craft” became a label, and my taste has evolved naturally over time.

Why this site exists

I started Andy’s Beer Reviews because I wanted somewhere to talk about beer in plain English. No jargon, no hype, and no pretending that every beer needs to be a limited release or a technical masterpiece.

Most of the beers reviewed here are beers you can actually buy. Supermarkets, pubs, bottle shops, and the odd unexpected find. Some are brilliant, some are average, and some sit somewhere in between.

The goal isn’t to sell you beer. It’s to help you decide what’s worth drinking, and why.

BTW, if you're looking for great beers to buy from a UK Supermarket, check this post out

How I approach beer reviews

I buy the beers myself, drink them properly, and write honestly about the experience. Reviews focus on flavour, balance, drinkability, and whether the beer delivers what it promises.

Personal context matters too. Beer is tied to places, memories, and moments, and I don’t strip that out for the sake of sounding technical or objective.

If a beer is great, I’ll say so. If it misses the mark, I’ll explain why. Not every beer needs to be torn apart, and not every beer needs to be praised.

What you’ll find on this site

You’ll find a mix of individual beer reviews, longer opinion pieces, style guides, and practical articles that help make sense of the beer world without overcomplicating it.

Some posts are reflective, some are practical, and some are simply about enjoying a good pint. Over time, the site has grown into a record of my own beer journey, and a resource for anyone who enjoys beer without taking it too seriously.

Beer, cider, and everything in between

While beer is the main focus here, cider also gets attention. I review cider in the same way I review beer, looking for balance, flavour, and drinkability rather than marketing claims.

The same approach runs through everything on the site. Drink what you enjoy, understand why you enjoy it, and don’t feel pressured by trends.

How to use the site

If you’re new, a good place to start is with the longer reviews or guides, as they give a better sense of how I think about beer.

You can also browse by beer style, brewery, or topic, but this site is designed to be explored at your own pace. There’s no right order.

A quick note on expectations

This site isn’t about perfection. It’s about honesty, enjoyment, and curiosity. Beer should be enjoyable, not intimidating, and writing about it should feel human.

If you stick around, I hope you’ll find beers worth trying, styles worth exploring, and maybe even recognise a bit of your own journey in mine.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy your beers.

Note: This site is supported by advertising so I can keep writing long-form, independent beer reviews without paywalls or sponsorship pressure.
